SASHA J. BLONDEAU
COMPOSER
Sasha J. Blondeau is a french composer of contemporary mixed, instrumental and electroacoustic music. They have a PhD in music composition from the Ircam-Sorbonne Universities-CNRS program and are interested in the interaction between instrumental and electronic writing in the same space of expressivity. The questions of hybridity, disidentification and "other spaces", in the Foucauldian sense of the term, are at the heart of their works.
Sasha J. Blondeau graduated in 2012 from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon in the composition classes of Denis Lorrain and François Roux. They obtained their PhD in composition at Ircam in 2017, in the Representations Musicales team, where they worked on the Antescofo language and the new possibilities of writing for electronics that it implies.
They are a resident of the Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris from July 2013 to June 2015, and from September 2019 to June 2020. They are the laureate of the Francis and Mica Salabert Foundation Prize 2012 and the Sacem "Claude Arrieu" Prize 2018.
They have been commissioned by the Philharmonie de Paris, the SWR Donaueschinger Musiktage, the Wittener Tage Für Neue Kammermusik (WDR), Ensemble Modern, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Radio France, Ircam, the Festival Musica, the French Ministry of Culture, the Festival Messiaen, the Percussions de Strasbourg, the GMEM and Françoise and Jean-Philippe Billarant.
Sasha J. Blondeau has worked with the Orchestre de Paris, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Diotima Quartet, the Lovemusic Collective, the ensembles Kwadrofonik, Court-Circuit, Talea, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, Insomnio and with the performers Sarah Maria Sun, the soloists of Musikfabrik, Barbara Kinga Majewska, Hae-Sun Kang, Christophe Desjardins and Séverine Ballon. For their project Cortèges, François Chaignaud, Hélène Giannecchini and Sasha J. Blondeau were in residence at Royaumont (FR) in 2022 and at the Villa San Francisco in January 2022 (Villa Albertine).
Sasha J. Blondeau was fellow at Villa Médicis, Académie de France à Rome, for the year 2018-2019. They were fellow at Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia (Germany) for the year 2022-2023.
